i like turtles. by shelzie i like turtles. by shelzie
For 80s-90s cartoon fanart topic on TWD! Super proud of this! :D these guys were my childhood. most of my childhood nostalgia relates to books and authors, and even though I do remember watching a lot of cartoons too, these guys are one of the few that still awaken my inner child.

I've always wanted to try drawing/painting on cardboard, and I had a piece of I'd been saving for a special occasion, so I went to town on it. I was going for a graphic look with this that I think goes with the boys' New York street background, and the style I drew them in is kind of a combination of some of their various incarnations (old show, new show, new CG models) plus a little of my own. Sketched in pencil, inked with a black sharpie, highlighted with white gel pen, touched up with prismacolor pencil, and then added the background tone effect with copic marker. The overall colours in this are kind of weird and blocky because I had to scan it in parts and piece it together in Photoshop. Kind of an experiment, and I think a successful one - I will DEFINITELY be drawing on cardboard more often.

COWABUNGAAAAA.

Thanks! Didn't use chalk, though. I went into detail about what media I used in the picture description. Glad you like!

i don't even know where I got that from. I must have been absent minded..I thought you said something along the lines of chalk ON cardboard..but you just said cardboard..it's just one of those day. I'm sorry. That's kinda embarrassing..regardless, this is still great.

Badass! Y'know it actually looks a lot like the original graphic novel versions... but in color! Which is nice. I remember back then their bandanas weren't different colors either, they were all just red... go figure... lol

Thanks! and yeah, there probably was a bit of influence from there too but that might just be because i chose to draw their limbs with a nod to actual pond turtles. I thought about making all their bandannas red, actually. But then I decided this was for an 80s-90s cartoons theme
and in the 80s cartoon they had the different colours, so there!

speaking of the blog, DO YOU WANT IN?!
