Hello, Mushroom-Grovers, this is me being an admin again. It's been a while, hasn't it?
So recently ~soteria-luff, ~SockHero, and I have begun talking again about the canine/feline/human RP forum, Mushroom Grove, that Sotes founded and that we all currently co-own. Due to an unfortunate setback some two years or so ago, activity dwindled and a lot of us lost touch with our characters which made it even more difficult to post. Eventually, people stopped coming around altogether - until now.
The three of us decided that MG is important to all of us and that for it to truly recover, we needed to overhaul everything completely. So - lots of new and exciting things are happening! We've mass-emailed all our members about this, but I'd like to say it here too. Older members still interested in being part of the site should go and check out our latest announcements because things are about to change - and, I believe, for the better.
As things are moving along quite nicely, I wanted to draw something to commemorate the occasion (and serve as a devART announcement as well, of course ). We've got - of course - my dearest whippet couple Penny and Wings in the middle, meeting their daughter Kite and adoptive spaniel-daughter Tender as they run in from the horizon. In the foreground, ~soteria-luff's Jewel and ~SockHero's Bluebird look on.
I would have included still more characters from other people but my list would have gotten way too long. :[ There are so many characters on MG that I have become fond of and even cherish, and somehow it's something that we all keep coming back to. So yes - if you're unfamiliar with the site but enjoy researching, writing and roleplaying realistic dogs, cats and humans, check us out! And if you're a familiar face, we would love to see you back there! I might do another, larger group picture later on.
technicalities: I didn't feel like being particularly meticulous, but I still wanted to do a complete picture - something a bit different for me because usually I like to focus on the characters themselves and it's relatively recently (i.e. college layout classes) that I've begun paying more attention to overall composition, colour etc. and consciously making choices about that. I'm happy with this!
I love that movie and it's older than that, I watched it when I was a young child and I'm in my mid-twenties now. It's probably the title and the fact that two of the dogs are running back from the horizon. I meant this to evoke a feeling of nostalgia and homecoming
Ahh, I remember this! Back in the halcyon days of my forum RPing... Oh how I miss them so.
I'm very interested in Mushroom Grove if you start it up :U unfortunately I don't know much about it anymore. Can you perhaps tell me what this Mushroom Grove is all about, or maybe direct me to a place that has all the info? I'd love to get back into the RPing groove thang again.
Yeah, I know what you mean. This place has felt like home to me and several other people, and we always end up gravitating back to it even when we fall away for periods
It's simple enough to explain: Mushroom Grove is a town populated (for the most part) by people that know and love animals: breeders, competitors, pet-owners etc. You can play a dog, a cat, or a human (and we have lots of cross-pollination in that many households have more than one animal, and you often find at least two RPers playing either humans or animals in the same household). Your animals can be owned or strays. Roleplay is realistic and intermediate-advanced level, and we do require a substantial amount of knowledge/research to go into characters (for example: if you want to play a racing whippet, you should know at least a decent amount about both dog racing and the whippet breed). That's pretty much it. It's a simple enough setting, but because of the variety of characters people play we've had an amazing amount of both human and animal drama happen over the years: affairs, first dates, pet-thieves, runaway dogs, pack struggles, and more. We've tried to do site-wide plots before, but somehow the best and most interesting happenings are the ones that have grown out of characters simply interacting with each other.
#mushroomgrovers is our club on devART, and feel free to check out the site itself of course! If you think it might be your cup of tea, we'd love to have you.
I think I'd like to have a look at Mushroom Grove myself, I haven't forum RPed in years and I miss it!
