Hanging Out by shelzie Hanging Out by shelzie
So I recently realized that I haven't really completed anything with a full background, at least not for myself, since my senior thesis film Durian Season. >_>;; I am now on a quest to rectify this (and also practice my background/colouring skills)! I'm proud of this one.

If I'd had enough time and motivation, my ending credits were going to look something like this, just postcard-type images of Labu and the monkeys palling around in the jungle. By then I was sick of drawing trees and monkeys, haha. But it was good to revisit these two after all this time! I need to do a good picture with all four of them in it at some point.

I was going to livestream this tonight actually but I got too into it and finished it. T_T; I'm planning another picture already though so maybe I'll do that one instead.

Hnggg!!! I love your Jungle Swifty! The little hanging vine beneath little monkey is just to die for. I love that little detail. In fact, I can find a detail to love in just about every sector of this painting! You did such a good job, I love this liek WOAH! <3

Aw thanks so much Bloo ♥ It's interesting revisiting these guys and the setting I gave them with a new and updated set of skills, and it's good for me to note how I've evolved since I graduated. I don't think I've ever dared to do a background with clear outlines like this and I'm glad I tried it. I'm trying to experiment and pay more attention to colour choices and composition since I've always been preoccupied with characters and anatomy and making them appealing, and I'm definitely encouraged to do more by how this came out :D

That's beautiful! Good composition, really lovely soft colors, and the characters are adorable.

(I've been really bad about commenting on anything lately but I've still been loving your superheroes and marker work :D)

Your animals always look so great! And a wonderful but not overly detailed background!

Thank you :) I'm still figuring out a style for backgrounds, I've never really done one with outlines before and I'm happy with how it turned out. I feel like this is the first picture I've done where the character really feel like part of the scene, so I'm pleased :)

I think you should stick with this style for backgrounds. Everything flows really well. :)

You are so good at caricaturing animals! I especially love your monkeys! I appreciate the fact that you draw them aesthetically pleasing, not overly creepy/mean looking, but not so deformed and cute that you couldnt tell what kind of monkey it is...
this background is great and simple and cute and perfect

Thanks so much DD: Means a lot coming from you! I like drawing stuff deformed and cute but not to the extent that it loses the essence of what animal it is etc. :B
